Top 3 Things that Drain a Running Mom

Pain & Injury

Although running injuries are common, they shouldn't be a normal part of your running. Incorporating strength and mobility exercises to address little niggles before they become bigger issues is the best way to assure your training isn't derailed by injury. Working with a coach that's also a physical therapist will help you make sure all the pieces of your training are working together.

Scheduling Conflicts

We DON'T all have the same 24 hours in a day. Having a plan that makes the most of your time and works with your schedule will set you up for success. Even the most dedicated runners can't avoid things that come up during a training cycle. Having a coach to help you adjust when kids get sick and the schedule gets crazy helps take the stress out of training.

Recovery Challenges

When you set big goals, your body also needs big recovery. Training isn't just about putting in the miles but allowing your body to recover and adapt to become a stronger runner but recovery doesn't always come easy as a mom. Hello midnight wake ups and snack stealers. Working with a coach will help you find a balance between training and recovery so you can make the most out of all your hard work.Ā

Hi, I'm Dr. Katlyn Lennemann

Katlyn is a physical therapist with a doctorate degree from UNMC in Omaha. During PT school she traded her volleyball shoes for running shoes and eventually fell in love (ironic for someone who used to pull strings to get out of running warm ups) with the sport herself and helping other runners overcome injury.

After starting a family, Katlyn had a new appreciation for the challenges running moms face and also how important it is for moms to hold space for their running. She started Run-Resilient as a way to more easily reach busy moms to help them train in a way that feels healthy both physically and mentally.

Katlyn believes any goal is achievable with the right plan and has found herself drawn to long races on the trails. When she's not eating candy on the trails or pouring into her athletes, she's likely exploring a new park with her husband, daughters, and dogs or curled up on the couch with a favorite beverage (mood/time/season dependent) and a good book.

"I kept running through the pain of shin splints and at one point I could barely walk the pain was so bad. I read way too many Reddit posts about shin splints and watched more YouTube videos than I can count yet even after trying things, the pain continued and it made me dread going on runs. This is when I decided to work with Katlyn and to seek help from someone who is knowledgeable and who could offer advice and help me with a training plan to try to tackle those issues. I’ve also learned so much about the right type of strength training specifically for runners and I already feel so much stronger. I feel excited to rebuild—the right way—and to have guidance along the way from a fellow mom who has a unique understanding of what it means to fit in training and motherhood together."

" I feel so much more confident in my progress because it feels sustainable long-term. The targeted strength training has been a game-changer for me, I could tell the difference in my runs within the first couple of weeks. There had been muscles I was ignoring and others that were getting overused. Within just a few weeks, I could sense a much better balance overall during my runs. Personalized coaching is worth the investment to stay running injury-free! "
